Location
Samsø offers many exciting activities for the whole family. Around Mårup you will find the best sandy beach on the northern island of Samsø, as it is ideal for swimming and families with children.
Just 2 kilometers from the house is the village of Mårup. Here you find a Dagli Brugs, which is open all year round. There is also a bike rental, cafe and roadside sales selling locally grown vegetables.
Equally close to the cottage is Nordby, voted Denmark's best-preserved village. This is not without reason, as Nordby is an incredibly charming and cosy village with its central pond and old, fine half-timbered houses.
If you drive further north, you will come to the northernmost point of Samsø, Issehoved. It is always worth a visit, as it is an astonishing view. Don't miss out on a good hike in the beautiful landscape.
On the southern part of Samsø, you can for example stop by the Falcon Centre, where you can watch the eagle and other large birds show off their skills. Around the many cosy villages, you will find specialty shops, tasty strawberries in season, and cafes.
The village of Besser is particularly well known for its cosy village environment and the Søster Sidevind café, which is open all year round. You can also go for a walk on Besser Reef and see interesting birds, find amber or a fossilised sea urchin.
Stop by Ballen Harbour and taste some wonderful Samsø specialities. If you visit Ballen in week 29, be prepared for Denmark's cosiest festival, held here every year in July.
