Ny Spøttrup Gård - a listed stately country estate with a view over the water

Ny Spøttrup Gård is blessed with a beautiful and remote location by the water and is on a plateau with view over a heathland and tidal dam landscape.

Ny Spøttrup Gård is a listed stately country estate built in 1870 by Niels Breinholt and his wife, Maren Stokholm, the owners of the nearby medieval Spøttrup Slotsgods on the Salling-peninsula at the Lim­fjor­den – one of the best places for clamp and oyster fishing in Denmark.

In the mid-19th century, the estate was breeding and exporting the live-stock cattle to Germany and Great Britain via the hi­sto­ri­cal “cattle-road” “Hærvejen” to reach the harbors in Altona and Tönning (in what we today call Germany), and later they shipped live-stock cattle out of Esbjerg after the com­ple­tion of the port of Esbjerg in 1868.

Ny Spøttrup Gård was listed as an estate of national im­portan­ce by the The Agency for Culture and Palaces, in 2011.

Since 2007 Ny Spøttrup Gård has gone through a sig­ni­fi­cant re­sto­ra­tion, pre­ser­va­tion, and main­tenan­ce work, but the work has not been completed, and must continue to secure the cultural heritage forever.

Upon arrival, guests are greeted by the local caretaker, who also conducts a tour of the house which has 6 unique double rooms, one single room, several cozy living rooms, two bathrooms and a well-equipped kitchen.

In one of the ends of the estate you find an “authentic man cave”, where the talk can go quite merrily – espe­ci­al­ly out in the wee hours after a great meal, and maybe a cognac for the after-dinner coffee.

There are two more single rooms in the attic, but these room are not isolated according to today’s standards. Further they are accessed through a steep staircase (not suitable for elderly people and people with walking dif­fi­cul­ties), but here you can sleep in the “milkmaid’s room” or “farm helper’s room”.
