If you are into cosy times on the terrace with a direct view to fjord and sailing ships and 10 metres to a swim in the fjord, then this holiday house is for you who want a treat.

Welcome inside

This holiday house is located by the water’s edge on a sloping plot, and from you enter the kitchen and till you continue into the living rooms, you have a direct view of Roskilde Fjord everywhere. There is a cosy living room with TV, onwards through a kind of hallway with an extension bed and into the dining room with natural skylight, combined with the big window settings directly towards the fjord, also with a wood burner next to a comfortable day bed, where you can lie down and enjoy the view; all this stands light and inviting.

Enjoy life outside

From the dining room there are several exits to the big and beautiful wooden terrace with various groups of tables and chairs, so it is possible to enjoy the sun and the breathtaking view from several spots. Part of the terrace is covered, which gives you yet another possibility to settle down. The terrace is the perfect place for a nice barbecue evening with a glass of wine, where you are in harmony with nature and the fresh fragrance from the fjord. From the main house you cross the terrace directly to the annex that sleeps two persons – also with direct fjord view. If you want some shade, there is another terrace on one side of the house with an outdoor sink/desktop. You may also go exploring the staircase in the back garden, leading up to another terrace, raised above the house and with the possibility of a view to the town Frederiksværk. The fjord is the obvious choice to do some kayaking or go for a lovely swim, and after the swim you walk directly into the lower level of the house, where you find the bathroom.

Get close to the local attractions

In Fredrikssund there are pathway systems for walks or bicycle rides as well as plenty of green spaces that you will pass on your tour along the fjord. You could go to the airfield, where they have an annual air show and the possibility to try a tour in a glider. Or you can continue out to Ådalen with a shelter, a bonfire setting and a big lake, where you may fish. Onwards along the stream where you then reach the town centre. You could visit Sillebroen shopping centre with a cinema and the regional theatre, showing quality movies and stand-up comedy etc. Take a stroll on the pedestrian street and continue down towards the harbour to the public port bath, located on Tippen. The town offers Frederikssund Viking Plays from end of June and into July plus Frederikssund Festival in early August, the cosiest festival in Denmark. When you get hungry, there is a wide selection of restaurants to choose from, in the town centre as well as in the outskirts with views to the fjord and the harbour. If you like museum visits, the Willumsen Art Museum in Frederikssund is a good choice – or you may cross Kronprins Frederiks Bridge to find the regional museum Færgegården and can also enjoy a walk in the Færgelund forest. There are many possibilities – a holiday choice you will not regret.

Recommendations from Holiday home owner

When we arrive at Fjordhuset, we immediately feel at peace. Here, we enjoy the proximity to Roskilde Fjord in all seasons. We read books, discuss matters large and small, swim in the fjord, go kayaking, draw, knit, and enjoy many cups of coffee.

In both sun and rain, we sit under the covered terrace and listen to the water. We walk up the long staircase to the highest plateau, where we feel extra calm above the house. We follow the activity of the ships on the fjord and watch Crown Prince Frederik's Bridge go up once an hour so that the ships can pass.

When the temperature drops, we move indoors to the warmth, where the large living room window naturally draws the eye towards the fjord.

There is neither luxury nor designer furniture here, but for us, the location by the fjord is such a luxury that we don't need much else.

On the rare occasions when we feel like leaving the property, there are a wealth of experiences and beautiful nature in the area. We walk along the fjord or down to the harbour via the idyllic ‘Skyllebakkegade’. At the harbour, we drink a cup of coffee at Café Ærlig or eat a shrimp sandwich at Restaurant Toldboden. The kitchen at Fjordhuset is small and relatively primitive, so we often bring sushi or other takeaway food back to the cottage and eat on the terrace.

We also use the barbecue in the courtyard a lot in the summer.

We hope you have a wonderful stay in our little paradise.

Have a great holiday at Fjordhuset!
